With technologies such as augmented reality, the internet of things and artificial intelligence finally reaching the mainstream, we're on the cusp of a creative revolution. These new mediums are activating a new class of artists, entertainers, filmmakers, and musicians, limited only by their access to, and understanding of, technology. Despite this explosion in creative possibilities, artists, entertainers and technologists often exist in distinct, isolated worlds. DRCT Current is doing its part to bring those worlds together.
The participants of DRCT Current workshops will have the opportunity to submit a creative concept for prototyping. Projects will be independently selected by a panel to receive a materials grant.
In addition, Fab Lab Chch will offer technical support, access to kit and equipment, a weekly meeting and prototyping space.

Creative Tech Toolkit
Over a six week workshop series, DRCT Current will explore the intersection between Science, Technology and Art. At any time during the programme project concepts can be floated or devised. These projects have an opportunity to be realised through a material grant and prototyped with the tools and expertise available at Fab Lab Chch.
Augmented, mixed and virtual reality enable a deep level of immersion. Explore the technology and current experimental applications across the virtuality spectrum and learn a new vocabulary of storytelling.
Motion capture and motion sensing have the power to turn a passive audience into active participants. Gain an awareness of technologies that see and sense movement.
The open source electronics movement, such as Arduino, has unleashed a new world of possibility. This session introduces a range of microcontrollers and their potential to bring interactive works to life.
3D printing is making the impossible possible. Alongside other techniques such as laser cutting, vinyl cutting and CNC routing, the tools of creation are now more accessible than ever.
Patching software such as Isadora and Praxis enable us to manipulate complex interaction between inputs and outputs. These tools designed for creatives to easily manipulate connectivity across multiple technologies.
With the growth of 3D printing, wearable technology and the need for more sustainable practices, new composite materials are being developed including smart and biomaterials. Discover new tangibles.
