The diode's arrived!

 Nicolas putting together a trial of the circuit.  Used AA Batteries to power LED + transistor. Needed a multimeter to test voltage output by the diode amplified by the transistor.  We were aiming to get a big jump in the number on the multimeter when we cut the beam between the LED and the Diode. At first when we cut the light between the LED and the diode there was only a small difference, so Nicolas added in a transistor to amplify and the difference between that and when the beam was broken was much greater.

 He also put a casing around the diode to protect it from ambient light. He just used heat shrink tubing cause it was the right size. We will have to 3d print some casing for it so that it is somewhat protected from the ambient light. We will also have to design the casing so that when it is stuck on to the heart the laser can be adjusted to line up with the diode when needed. Will probably do a screw and socket design.

 To do an extra test, Nicolas put in an LED in the bread board to test the circuit. The LED turned on and off when the light was blocked between the laser diode and the other diode in the casing. SUCCESS!
