3D printing is making the impossible possible. Alongside other techniques such as laser cutting, vinyl cutting and CNC routing, the tools of creation are now more accessible than ever.
Centrifugal Soul is a room-sized zoetrope covered in 3D-printed birds and flowers. The one-second loop, cut into 18 frames, spins at 60rpm with strobe lights flashing at just the right time to create the illusion of movement. "The only way of getting that animation millimetre-accurate is to 3D print it," says artist Mat Collishaw
Eric Standley, a Virginia-based artist who works with laser-cut paper, creates amazing and awe-inspiring layered paper cuts of extraordinary complexity that successfully marry Gothic and Islamic architectural elements in tiny cathedral-like spaces.
